Fall of the Warlock Kings
Once a vast city, center of the Chan Empire, but now greatly reduced. Some even argue that the modern city of Chan is not on the same location as the ancient city of Chan, and certainly the whole area around the city, on both sides of the Cobalt River, is dotted with ancient mounds suggestive of ruins, which local legends say are the tombs of forgotten kings. The city has for sixty years been part of Carnelian, and for forty part of the Great Kingdom. It has a Mayor who is appointed by the Great King as needed, who handles local affairs. The city is unwalled and sprawls over much of the north bank of the Cobalt, with perhaps 15,000 citizens, where there were once nearly ten times that number. There are numerous small villages and suburbs scattered about, often built from the stones of the ruined old city. Each is proud of whatever ancient origin it can lay claim to, most often that their crude structures lie on the “true site” of ancient Chan. The actual Chanese laugh at all these assertions, pointing to the antiquity of many of their largest structures as proof that the current city was once the heart of the old city.
