Fall of the Warlock Kings
A maritime city state based on an island at the northen verge of the Sea of Stars. A maze of narrow streets and low buildings rising up to the Council Hall atop the low peak of the island of Viir, the city is densely populated and has perhaps as many as 100,000 people. Guilds wield great strength in Viir, organizing the daily life of the people, whose devotions to gods have never been great enough to provide them that organizing impetus. Most powerful of the guilds are the Shipbuilders and the Sailors; Viir is the mightiest naval power in the world, and a firm opponent of the Great King. Ruled over by a Council of Captains who consult with and occasionally defer to the Warlock King of Viir, servant of Mirror of the Heavens, the city has many colonies and outposts are the Sea of Stars and even further afield, most notably at Ullien Kail. Other colonies include Shizan, Thuven and Voron, as well as the somewhat autonomous enclave of Coriole. In recent months, the Viiri have become different, their merchants, sailors and travelers taciturn and glum where once they were cheery and confident. They seem unable or unwilling to return to Viir when seen outside the city, and as few or no Viiri ships are sailing to the island city, hardly anyone else has been there, and if anyone has gone to and returned from Viir since before the winter, it has not been heard.
